A Captive Awash in Their Truth

I am Black so, I must be a woman, I am Mahu so, I must lead. I am queer so, I must be free.

There is the dim reality queer people of color who have yet to fully liberate themselves face. This often feels like an obligation to heteronormative circumstances and behaviors. The artist feels most beside themselves in scenarios where they are pulling out old faces, laughs, walks, and especially old clothes. Here the artist sculpted a glamourous prison out of worn clothes of years past, glitter/rhinestones, and loose dollar bills.
