I Am Not Your Messiah

There are parallels between Black women and Jesus in this piece. Though we are not your savior. The thorn crown in this case is made of raw cotton and modern "thorns", screws, nails and toothpicks, along with gold and silver wire. The pool of blood is reminiscent of the grotesque scene on the cross. On the face one could spot a bloody brow and weeping eye. Both a testament to the humanity Black women are so often denied.
