Jiggaboots

Collage of rapper Jay Z at two different phases of life, one for each boot. On one boot, all pictures used are cut rather than torn to signify the hunger for success and obligation to gain social mobility. One would also notice there are no smiling pictures of Jay Z in this era. The other boot however, features themes suggesting there are no limits in his life anymore. His path is no longer finite as he ”made it”, this is shown through the smiles and torn paper instead of cut. On the tongues of the shoes, are displays of who he was and is now. Previously, on one frigid track very much about his personal success.

While the other communicates the change in that reality for him, he can now put on for the community as well as enjoy the spoils of the war many Black men fight. Spoils include excess wealth no human should possess, an equally influential wife beside him, and lucrative resources to maintain this reality. Jay Z’s success story is one for the ages, but it like many others has positioned the Black community to believe there is a single way to regain your inner power. Through capital.
