Unearthling!

Like many, the Nottoway Plantation Fire resonated with the artist. In the smoke; figures such as women, men, and most notably a dragon/ Phoenix were seen as the mansion burned. This incredible act of God inspired the artist to draw from cautionary tales, specifically The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug. The plantation fire simmered in the bellies of Black Americans, stirred the soul in a way that many were unfamiliar with before. Using a torch, barbed wire, and garden stakes, the artist illustrated what a puncture that fire must have felt like to a general mass of white Americans.
